My Students

We jump right into math or science after breakfast and look at the world as a mathematician and scientists instead of just a student. We work as a class, then in partners for mathematical and science discussions, and then we go into engaging work stations to explore all aspects of math and science.

My fifth grade students are young men and young ladies who live in the "most dangerous" city in the US as well as being labels one of the "highest poverty rates".

They struggle daily in many ways to make it to school but once they arrive they are ready to go. They come to school to learn. They have plans for college and to reach those goals we push everyday to overcome the struggles they face.

My Project

My Reading Across the Curriculum project is filled with reading magazines that are driven by math and science including Scholastic SuperScience subscriptions, DynaMath subscriptions, a science library, and a STEM book set. I want my students to understand reading and math go together in everything they do and it is a must to master to be able to achieve their goals. So I want them to have the resources they can read, research, and stay abreast of news in the science and math worlds.

This project will improve my classroom by helping my students realize that math and science is around them everyday in every way.

They will become more vested in their learning when they are applying what they have learned instead of just doing a worksheet. The students will be able to actually apply the skills taught to real life, and that is a great learning experience.
