This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in an underprivileged district in NYC. My classroom is built up of a diverse community of children. These children have amazing abilities, but just don’t have the money for their parents to be able to supply the basics needed for day to day learning. These students will be given the opportunity to shine and succeed in the upcoming school year.
My Project
The books I am requesting will help my little classroom citizens celebrate their identities and create a more inclusive learning environment. My classroom is a melting pot of colors. I literally have a mini United Nations in my classroom since the majority of my students come from different countries and speak multiple languages.
The books in our classroom don’t represent the students in my classroom.
My goal is to create a rich print classroom with characters, settings and plots that my babies can relate to. Reading takes you anywhere and everywhere you want to go. Please invest in reading materials that my students will be able to appreciate their similarities and also understand and respect their differences.
