My Students
My students love to watch and see the different stages in the life cycle of a butterfly, but along with seeing it they need to read about it too.
My students come from a small rural area in Utah where a high percentage is Hispanic.
Our school is a small elementary school where most of the students receive free or reduced price lunch because of the high poverty level. My students love learning, and I want to be able to give them the education that they deserve. I don't want my students to miss out on any opportunities just because our school is not as affluent as others.
My Project
My students need a classroom set of the nonfiction book "Monarch Butterfly" for reading and learning about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly. Every year in our class I go out and find monarch caterpillars to bring into our classroom so we can watch the life cycle of a butterfly. My students love watching the stages the butterfly goes through and get so excited about learning. The only problem is that I don't have a book that helps me correlate their science and reading. With so many of my students being Spanish speaking they don't get very excited about reading because they struggle with reading. I believe that by having them read about something that excites them will get them excited about reading also. This book and the other resources will help to get my students excited about reading and learning.
Please help my students get the opportunity to enjoy reading a book on a topic that they love to learn about.
Funding this project will help my students to enhance their reading and comprehension skills. This book along with the other resources will complete and animate this unit for my students.
