Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an ESL teacher and General Ed teacher working in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Fifty percent of my students come from immigrant families with working parents.

"Experience more by seeing more" is my goal for all my students.

Outside of the school, they do not have many opportunities to explore areas and places outside of their neighborhood and are not even aware of the great places that surround them. Many students do not even have books in their homes and are solely exposed to reading in the classroom. These students deserve the best education I can possibly provide them to help them reach their maximum potential and grow into positive contributors to society.

I want to help my students build a "productive struggle" mindset this year to help them conquer life difficulties in the future.

My Project

This project will fund our classroom libraries and will rejuvenate the heart of the classroom. Students' interest levels will be sparked as they enjoy the smell of a new book and read about characters like themselves.

My first graders will be excited to crack open a fresh new book from their portable classroom library and be inspired to read an engaging book independently.

This new library will provide book access to all students while building a strong reading community. With these new and updated books, teachers will be able to craft engaging literacy lessons to build excitement around reading and book discussions.
