My students need 21 books such as "Every Drop of Blood", "My Brother Sam is Dead", "Hatchet" and "Esperanza Rising" to check out and take home to read.
Do you remember the joy that you had in trips to the school library? Our school does not have a library, so many students go without books to read!
We are a Title I charter school in Ohio.
Many of my students do not have books at home, and do not have transportation to the local library. Without a school library and without access to books, many of our students are missing out on the joy of reading! The resource room assists students struggling in areas of reading and writing, and our students are missing chances to increase their reading fluency because they are without items to take home and read.
My Project
My students need 21 books such as Every Drop of Blood, My Brother Sam is Dead, Hatchet and Esperanza Rising to check out and take home to read. Most of my students are two or more grade levels behind their peers in reading. Reading fluency and comprehension is gained through practice, but we are without the resources to provide quality literature for them to read. Without a school library, our students do not have access to literature that will excite them and build their reading skills and fluency. So, we need to build a classroom library!
Access to the local library is difficult for many of the students, and many of my students would love to read more books, but don't have access to them.
Our goal is to build a resource room library with a wide variety of books at various reading levels so that they students can increase their reading skills and find enjoyment in reading!
