My Students
My students are hungry for high-interest book series that are accessible to a wide range of readers. My students attend a Title I school which means most of their families are surviving on very low incomes. Many of my students don't have their own books at home. They depend on our school library for great reading material. My students LOVE graphic novels. They often ask for graphic novels and our school library collection never seems to have enough in stock to satisfy the demand. Graphic novels are especially good for my reluctant readers--these books can often be read at a faster pace, allowing the reader to feel a great sense of accomplishment!
My Project
My students have been howling for books from the Dog Man series! This new series from the creator of Captain Underpants, Super Diaper Baby, and Might Robot (Dav Pilkey) has been all the rage this summer with my reading camp students. Greg, the police dog and his police human Harold, are injured on the job, but a life-saving surgery defies science and changes history: Dog Man is born.
With our small book budget, I'm woefully behind on the Dog Man trend and want to pre-order the new books in the series as well as order the currently released titles.
Please help us beef up our graphic novel collection by helping me fund this project.
