My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to believe in themselves the way I do. The students in my classroom are comprised of general education students, as well as students with various learning and emotional disabilities. On top of educational and emotional disabilities, many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school.
With that being said, how can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?
The typical student in my class reads below grade level and many struggles with basic phonics and number sense. Their desire to achieve success in school is the driving force behind our desire to give them the world.
My Project
A reader today makes a great leader for tomorrow. But what happens when many of the books on the bookshelf are from when your teachers were in 2nd grade! We are working hard to bring current titles to our 21st-century learners.
Getting a new book is like getting the best toy for your birthday!
At least to the students in 109. In a world that's changing rapidly, we are looking to bring social-emotional books as well as culturally responsive books to help our children embrace diversity and inclusion. It will also prepare them to become citizens of the world today.
