Coming Soon to a Reader's Theater Near You: Pretty Realistic Puppets! My students need puppets to liven up their readers' theater activities.
I have various groups of Pre K-2 grade students from Hispanic and African American backgrounds living in an industrial community of Bronx, NY.
These students live in an area plagued by poverty, unemployment, and crime. They have very limited opportunities to be creative or to enjoy the arts, especially theater.
My Project
These resources will help students to be more creative by providing opportunities for students to be dramatic and imaginative. They will be able to use their bodies, voices, emotions, minds, and talents to bring storybook characters alive. They will learn about theater scripts, characters, stage directions, and performance skills as they approach the New York City Department of Education benchmarks for Theater.
This project is important because it will provide resources for students to actively learn about dramatic literature.
This project will help to engage students as writers, actors, and designers of dramatic works. They will explore literature and make connections through their lives and across the curriculum. This project will also help students to demonstrate their understanding of character, conflict, and action both physically and vocally.
