My Students

My first graders are becoming critical, open-minded, creative thinkers who are willing to take risks and are eager for new knowledge. They are also growing as compassionate, tolerant, and respectful human beings who value cultural diversity and contribute to the community.

Our school's mission is to cultivate innovative thinking and foster independence, empathy, and initiative.

It is my privilege and joy to create a culturally-responsive learning environment in which first-graders fall in love with learning and take ownership of their own growth as learners.

My Project

Our classroom is small and has rather limited storage.

Chair pockets and book pouches will empower students to store their books at their seats and keep our class library in good condition.

This means students will get to check out more books at a time from our class library to practice independent reading! It will also enable students to keep their supplies tidy and organized, encouraging smooth transitions between learning activities.

Adding a second listening center to our room will allow students to choose from my large collection of books on CD. Listening to recorded books while following along in the text allows students to enjoy books above their reading level, helps them build reading fluency, and increases their exposure to rich vocabulary.
