Help me give my students access to diverse, relevant reading materials. We will use this book as our class read aloud as we study systemic racism.

My Students
The students in my classroom are courageous, inquisitive, kind, thoughtful, and eager to learn and create. My class is full of students from various ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is my teaching philosophy that students should always see themselves reflected in their classroom and in the materials they are expected to learn from. I also believe all student should have the supplies and materials needed to be successful learners regardless of their socioeconomic status.
My Project
Help provide books for my students that reflect who they are and their daily experiences. This resource is not only representative of our community, but highlights the inequities that persist. Ensuring that each student has a book in their hand also helps for quality instruction to occur.
Our plan for the book is to use it as a mentor text as students explore historic disenfranchisement throughout America.
Not only is this book written by an author of color, Renee Watson is a Portland native and has connections to many of the families I serve.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
