This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Readers make GREAT Leaders! My students love the library, they love to come to get the latest new book. The students at my school do not have books at home and are in great need of the resources that the library provides. The students love when we have monthly reading grade level challenges to read the most books.
Especially my 2nd-grade classes, every other day they are coming to the library asking for new books.
They are rocking their reading challenges each month. One class of 16 students, read 88 books in one week. I do not want the students to lose this excitement, but we need new books. The books that are in the library are currently being examined and most of the copyright dates are from the 1990s-2000s. As the librarian, it is my job to find ways to put updated material in the hands of my students and that is my plan with "Readers make GREAT Leaders!
My Project
We need these books to create better readers for today and better-prepared leaders of tomorrow. The collection in the school library is outdated and the students need updated materials to reach their educational goals. I will use these books to connect library lessons to classroom lessons.
I want to provide books that students can relate to because the main characters look or act like they do.
The school collection is lacking in a wide selection of culturally diverse books and we need the books for the student to make text to self connections. These materials would give the students access to updated materials to engage and inspire new learning of cultures.
