Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing, they truly are! Every day I greet students who are excited to learn, despite the challenges they overcome outside our school walls. About five years ago our school was deemed the lowest performing school in a failing district overtaken by the state Department of Education. Five years later, these wonderful students have surpassed expectations and moved our school to a level 1 school!
In my classroom, they are becoming little historians in the making, eager to learn about the past and full of inquisitive questions!
I teach about 130 students ranging in reading levels from grade K to grade 11 in the seventh grade so we have a huge need and a lot of growth to make. This need combined with their historical curiosity leaves my room in dire need of some interesting, informative books that will support the needs of all the historians-in-training in my classroom!
My Project
My students are in dire need of books! They are eager to learn, but they need the access to books that meet their independent reading level needs. I have readers that span from k-11 grade, so we need a library to help us narrow the gap! Some of my struggling readers love the graphic novels, while the more advanced ones are longing for series books like The Hunger Games, Maze Runner, and the lovely John Green books!
These books will give my students the library they need to continue flaming their curiosity while helping us narrow our reading gaps!
Your help will give my students a library that they want to access, with books that are culturally and socially relatable to who they are. Students will be able to use these books for independent reading at school and at home so that we can continue working to narrow our reading gaps, but also to ignite a love for books!
