My Students

"Everyday geniuses" are what I teach daily. My students have the desire and thirst for learning, however it is not easy to provide differentiated instruction to all students on a daily basis. Their needs and learning styles vary greatly.

My students are 6 and 7 years old.

They attend a public school in Baltimore County, in a neighborhood with a high percentage of low-income families. Many of the students do not have access to technology or reading materials outside of the classroom, and have to share the technology and reading materials that are available when in school. The students in my inclusive classroom include students with the following characteristics: autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, low attention, and gifted and talented; and they all learn in a variety of ways.

My Project

My students have big dreams. They dream of being doctors, firefighters, teachers, and veterinarians. They realize that reading is a BIG part of learning and achieving their dreams. The tablet that I am requesting will assist my students in gaining a wealth of leveled reading materials on a variety of student-centered topics. It would also allow for access to several instructional apps which would address the different learning styles of my diverse students. Instructional pacing could be adjusted to meet students' individual needs. This technology would help to unlock the genius inside each of my students.

Students learn the most when they are actively engaged in meaningful instruction.

They demonstrate the most growth when learning is fun and purposeful, and is reflective of their learning styles. Developing a passion for learning at an early age increases the potential for success as an adult. Thank you for helping me to release the potential of my little geniuses!
