it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The MORE you READ, the MORE things you KNOW. The MORE you LEARN, the MORE places you'll GO!"
Dr. Seuss These words spoken by the great Dr. Seuss fits my classroom so well. Reading allows us to learn and dive into countless adventures. The more we learn, the more adventures we will be able to go on.
My students face so many challenges, but I hope to help them realize that education is the vehicle to drive them towards a more promising future.
Our school is 100% poverty stricken; with only one other in the state of South Carolina. The only way they are able to read books that spark their interest are in the school or classroom library. They rarely visit the county library, due to lack of transportation or parent involvement. As a teacher it is my job to reassure the students that education is the key that unlocks the doors of opportunity and future success. This success is first achieved with the ability to read, and read well.
My Project
Students are always searching for books that spark their interest. After realizing students always check the same book or the same types of books out from out school library, I learned what kind of books interest them and keep them eager to read, especially during independent reading. With the use of high interest books, I would love to get students excited and motivated to read more. These books will be used during our independent reading time, as well as when students have the extra time to read, between assignments. This project will also provide a variety of books for my students to choose the book that is just right for them to read. My students need dry erase markers to continue interactive lesson using whiteboards.
I could not wait to read the next Babysitters Club book or for Dear Addy; American Girl girl books to be released.
As a teacher, I want my students to mirror the same excitement for their favorite book series or a book that is about something they're interested in. To build better readers, you have to construct a classroom library that is built around their interests. Your donations will make it possible for students to get even more excited about reading than they already do!
