This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school takes pride in engaging students in hands-on activities to help them reach their academic goals. I work with struggling readers in 3rd grade. This school year, they have worked so hard; they are no longer struggling!! The success is the motivation behind STEM and Project-Based Learning. In our class, learning doesn't end with reading; that's our starting point. We build models, create new prototypes from recycled cardboard and other items. Students write and record videos and presentations. These activities make reading purposeful, fun, and engaging.

My students enjoy having the flexibility to move around the room, and our current cushions have been well-loved and need an update.

Students have enjoyed recreating models of places they learn about. The magnetic blocks unlock their imagination and can easily help them recreate what they visualized as they read. The current problem is that we do not have enough.

I am thrilled to continue to support my students in their reading journey. Makes me so happy to see them overcome a big challenge and a necessary challenge, like reading.
