My Project

I am a third year Media Specialist at an AMAZING Title I school where 100% of our students receive free lunch. Our students come from a variety of cultural, social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds.

We have a large population of reluctant readers, and it it my mission to change that!

Every year, each school in our county/district participates in a Superintendent's Reading challenge, in which students must read 25 books between September and March. The number of our students that meet this yearly challenge, had typically been much lower than numbers turned in from other schools in our district. However, since partnering with Donor's Choose, I have been able to offer prizes/incentives to encourage my students to complete the challenge, dramatically increasing the number of students that complete it each year.

I would like to continue to offer these prizes as incentives so that the kids continue reading and developing that love for books along the way. With almost 900 students at our school this year, and no funding for this program, I can't do this alone! I am requesting snacks to give to my students as they continue to move through the challenge.
