Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a school librarian, I make a positive impact on all 600 students in our learning community. My campus is a Title I school, and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They show up to the library bright-eyed and eager to communicate, collaborate, and learn. The library is the heart of the school and a safe place where students can build a love of reading. My students have a wide variety of learning styles and levels. Each one is unique, and everyone in the library respects each other. I care about my students, and they know it!
My goal is to encourage students to become independent and lifelong readers and learners.
At the library, students enjoy reading a good book, being innovators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. I especially love that they are creative and try their best at everything that comes their way. I want my students to remember me when they grow up, so I make them feel welcome, safe, and important on a daily basis.
My Project
This is my first year as a school librarian at a new school. Because of this new transition, I want to create a welcoming and safe environment where learning and literacy development take place for all my diverse learners. The library is the heart of the school and all my students enjoy visiting time after time.
Promoting literacy and building a love for reading and books is my goal.
This READ sign will be displayed in the library as a reminder for my students. I am constantly reminding my students how important reading is, especially during this difficult time. I believe that motivation is key in promoting a love of literacy in children. It has been a challenging year for my students and I am sure that seeing a new colorful sign will brighten their day.
