Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from different parts of our community in TX. They are a group of eager readers from various socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. They love spending time together reading in class and sharing about what they read. They are talented storytellers who love sharing their writing with each other as well. One thing that we all enjoy together is our read aloud time. During read aloud my readers are engaged and love listening to the stories and participate in our discussions about the books we have read.
My Project
In my reading class, we spend a large portion of our day reading independently and with a partner as I conference with my readers about their books. We also explore different types of genres. In order for our class to be an effective and fun reading environment, we need as many books as we can get our hands on. Each student will spend 45 minutes reading independently and with a partner which will drastically improve their fluency. In addition, I alway conference with each student to discuss the different skills each one of my readers is working on. Studies have proven that children who read 20 minutes a day have a much higher vocabulary and succeed in life. What better way to ensure my students success than providing them with a classroom equipped with quality books!
