My Students

Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and eager to learn. As a third grade language arts teacher, high quality chapter books are critical to my students' success. Our classroom library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our classroom library to check out high-quality books. My goal is to create a classroom atmosphere of life long learners who love to read and get excited to talk to one another about books. Not only do I want to create a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in my classroom, I want to give students daily classroom opportunities to engage in real reading together.

My Project

These books I selected are included in the 2019-2020 Florida's Sunshine State chapter book list. These books are the most popular books each year and are the focus of my teacher read alouds each school day. Students who read chapter books often find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! My third graders will have daily classroom opportunities to learn the standards while having fun reading these books. My third graders will be working hard to build reading stamina, increase their reading fluency, improve their comprehension, write and discuss responses to reading and increase their vocabulary. The materials I am seeking will allow my students to continue to grow as a reader. Most importantly these chapter books will help my students develop a love for reading and bloom into the leaders they were meant to be.
