Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic and active learners who are gushing to show everything they can do! My class is made up of some students receiving special education services and general education. These students are receiving services inside and outside of our general education classroom. My students also come from various backgrounds, many qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, some from military families, and some English learners. My students are all unique individuals, but they all have something in common. They are all excited to explore and engage in creative outlets.
My Project
These books will give my students access to learn through reading non-fiction text. Our classroom library is filled with fiction books, but we have very few non-fiction books. Also, many of the non-fiction books we have in our classroom library are not a good fit for their independent reading levels.
My students will be able to apply strategies from our reader's workshop to their independent reading time if they have non-fiction books at their independent reading level.
These books will allow them to use non-fiction text features to learn and grow as readers. Many of these books will also be used to demonstrate applying reading strategies with non-fiction text.
