Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is a unique and magical time in a child's life, where academic leaps and bounds are made throughout the school year.
All of my students are eager and enthusiastic learners.
The children come from a wide range of abilities. Some of my students have attended Pre-k, while others have enjoyed a little extra time at home. The majority of my students also come from low income families and English as their second language.
We are truly blessed with a wonderful new school and some fantastic parents that are always willing to help their children in any way that they can. This is a rather unique situation where the school, as well as the Bilingual Program, are fairly new to the community.
My Project
Children are introduced to the love of reading in Kindergarten. I plan to use my new reading books to motivate and inspire the students to want to learn to read. The children will also be able to take some of these reading books home and share their new reading skills with their families.
A child who reads is an adult who thinks!
The children are expected to gain four reading levels within the school year. These books will vastly increase their reading abilities and will also make the children into the independent readers they inspire to be. I have carefully chosen these books with my students abilities in mind. These guided reading books will allow them to practice their sight words and build the fluency they need to acquire.
