Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 20 wonderful students in my class! They are eager to learn and work hard to achieve goals they have set. I work in a low-income district near Chicago, Illinois. It is humbling to see my students' resilience and perseverance as they walk into my class eager to become mathematicians, historians, authors, writers, and scientists! They love to curl up with a pillow and read books around the room, or challenge each other to show random acts of kindness!
My Project
I have a very diverse classroom with a wide range of reading interest and reading level. Students in my classroom come from various cultures and recognized that we do not have books that relate to their cultures and experiences in our classroom library. Can you imagine being in a classroom where your experiences don't connect to the books on the shelves?
I had students generate a list of books that portray their experiences and cultures that they would love to see in our classroom library.
These books will be so loved and give students an opportunity to dive into a world they can relate to!
