My students need a cozy, comfortable place to learn to read! I am working on expanding my library with new and exciting text, comfortable seating choices, hands-on phonemic awareness, and easy access organization!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Anthony and this is my fifth year teaching early elementary school. I am so excited this year to be piloting the early 5's program for my district!! My students this year are a fun and silly bunch who love to learn. My classroom is full of diverse students, many of whom speak different languages. I work in a title one school where over 80% of our students receive free and reduced lunch and many of my students' families are unable to donate items to the classroom.
My students are hard workers and they enjoy working on cross curricular projects.
They really enjoy working with hands on manipulative items and experiencing art and reading. I love teaching these little ones because they are so eager to learn and always ready to try new things!
My Project
I am so excited to be teaching young 5's (early Kindergarten) for the first time this year! My sweet kiddos are looking to me to teach them the critical skill of reading, and I want to make sure that their introduction into the wonderful world of books is a magical one. Teaching little ones to read depends on so many elements: read-aloud time, phonemic practice, sight word recognition, independent and partner reading time, and learning how to choose books of interest. To accomplish this I need to expand my library to include more books of varying levels and topics.
I also want to make sure that my students see themselves in the books they read, so I want to include a robust variety of text including different races, family structure, and ability.
In addition to the text, are the letter learning resources to make sure my students are phonemically aware to create a strong foundation for reading! To tie this all together, I will need bins to organize these books and I am asking for some pillows and comfortable seats so that students feel relaxed and excited while reading so that they learn to LOVE reading!
