My Students

My students are spirited, motivated learners! They adore hands-on, authentic learning experiences. They are extremely supportive of one another and thrive in a classroom setting when a sense of community, teamwork, and pride in accomplishments is shared among all. My students come from a variety of academic levels, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences that make our classroom unique and special!

First grade is a powerful milestone year for students in all areas of learning such as math, literacy, and social and emotional learning in addition to positive feelings of self-worth!

My Project

The push in first grade is to develop not only a love for reading, but successful independent readers. In order to do this, I need to place quality, high-level interest books in the hands of my students! When students left school to venture into digital learning in March, I placed as many books as I could from our classroom library in students' backpacks so they could continue to grow as readers. I am unsure how many of these well-loved books will be returned. Now our classroom library stands bare and empty!

The books that I have requested in this project will replace those lost during distance learning and refuel the readers in next year's classroom.

I have chosen titles in this project that will inspire the attention of young readers with fun adventures from well-loved, famous characters. These are titles that students typically adore and literally love to stockpile in their independent book boxes! I would love to give the next set of students in my first grade class a jump-start on a positive reading experience with the help of these exciting new titles! Students will be using these books as they read to me through Zoom. Then after reading the stories, they will write a book review and record their response on Flipgrid! Students will also use the books to review important literary elements that foster comprehension skills.
