This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom serves students whose families come from various parts of Latin America. Our Bilingual Spanish program helps students transition into learning English by first supporting and strengthening their native language skills.

Maintaining and strengthening Spanish language literacy skills aids in preserving student's cultures, connections to their families, as well as building their confidence and self - acceptance.

My students are curious, passionate, and empathetic. They have the drive to grow every day. However, resources in Spanish are limited and this places limits on the quality of learning we can foster in our classroom. Our bilingual program continues to survive because of teachers' perseverance and the need to support families in our community.

My Project

A subscription to Tales2Go will support my students in making the reading growth spurt that is necessary for second graders to become excellent readers. Distance learning has changed the way that students can access books. Many students do not have physical books at home or access to public libraries.

In order to help students make growth as readers, they will need access to digital versions of those same books they love to pick up in the classroom.

Aside from digital texts, Tales2Go has a collection of audiobooks. Audiobooks are also a great option for my second graders, because they can hear modeled versions of excellent reading skills by listening to these stories.
