Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The book sets that I have a quantity of 5 of will be used for the students to checkout of the classroom library for their small group book club. I wanted a variety of topics so the students can make a group based on shared interest as they use these books to work on building vocabulary, using context clues to dermine meaning of unknown words, comprehension skills, and writing skills.

As a gifted endorsed teacher, I want to use books to encourage and improve problem-solving as well as creative thinking skills.

Mr. Lemoncello's bookset has puzzles built into the story that the students will need to solve before we continue. The On Strike bookset features different supplies that we use in the classroom going on strike. For each book, I will remove that item from the classroom and allow the students to problem solve, "What else could we use to accomplish our task?" I want the students to develop a love for reading and close examination of the text by writing down unfamiliar words and using context clues as well as a dictionary to determine the meaning of the unknown words.

My students are special because I had them in kindergarten and will have them again when I switch grades to become a second grade teacher. They love when a book can be brought to life to help them with reading, writing, math, science, social studies, social skills, and life skills. I am looking to challenge my gifted and high achieving students as well as motivate and develop the special talents of all of my students. Thank you for your support and generosity. I truly appreciate it, and my students will become better students and citizens due to your kindness.
