This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a highly diverse school, where one-third of our population is English language learners. Eighteen countries are represented and fourteen different languages are spoken.
I have a variety of students who speak Swahili, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and French.
They are all very enthusiastic about learning how to read, write, listen and speak in English. This is my fourth year as an ESL teacher and my fifth project developed through DonorsChoose! I am so excited for my students to receive what they need to thrive in school!
My Project
My students need help building their comprehension skills. I plan to use the guided reading materials and high interest books to excite their imagination and meet them at their current reading ability. The guided reading leveled library contains multiple copies of each title at different levels which allows me to run reading groups.
After the last project, I noticed that my students love both princess and video game books.
The bins for these two categories are always empty, so it would be great to surprise them with more books they want to read every day. Please help support my ESL students' reading and classroom library!
