Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We love to read! Everyday after lunch is our silent Readapalooza. The kids sit down and become immediately engrossed in their books. At the same time, I also enter my reading world through the Kindle. They want access to one too. I want them to experience books of the future - e-readers

I currently teach in a third grade classroom working with high-achieving and gifted students.

Our school received Title 1 funds and many students come from impoverished and immigrant backgrounds. They don't have access to technology that other students take for granted. My goal is to integrate curricula with the 4Cs + Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical Thinking. These are "21st-Century skills" they need current technology in order to achieve in this modern world.

My Project

School is very demanding. The standards are rigorous, and testing is an intense and constant exercise. Unfortunately, there is no single magical formula for motivating students. Many factors affect a given student's motivation to work and to learn; such as, interest in the subject matter, perception of its usefulness, general desire to achieve, self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as patience and persistence. And, of course, not all students are motivated by the same values, needs, desires, or wants. But most are motivated by the visual and kinesthetic learning modalities that current technology has to offer. These Kindle Fires are my way to motivate my students and my way to differentiate the curriculum based on student needs. I will use these devices as in-class reading rewards for students who meet their goals. In addition, these devices will give me a platform to run educational Apps that are needs based, motivating, and a break from the status quo.

Motivation is a key element to effective teaching.

The Kindle Fires will not only motivate my students but take them into the 21st century. These technological wonders will guide my students into the new world. Please donate to my project and join our party at Readapalooza!
