My Students

As a teacher of a 5th grade ELA and Social Studies classroom in a rural area, I want my students to leave my room loving to read. We all come from different ethnicities and backgrounds.

In our classroom we like to move around the room and find a work station that best fits our needs.

We are very energetic and love to move! Ofter you will find some of my students lay on the floor, curled up in a corner, or standing beside their desk working away. Allowing students to choose where they work creates a comfortable work environment.

My Project

As a part of my goal to create a classroom with flexible seating, I also want to add active seating to areas of my classroom. This option will give my students a chance to sway, spin, and roll as they work read and write. Research has shown that by being active, more blood flows to the brain which increases student learning.

By adding these stools my students will have a wider variety of seating options, but also options that allow them to be more active throughout the day.

Childhood obesity is on the rise. Using the active stools while learning will help my students' health as well as their education by helping them stay focused.
