I work at a school with the best staff and most amazing first grade students. Every day, my students come to school eager and ready to learn. We love spending our days with each other while learning how to become independent learners. My students take pride in their accomplishments and strive to be the best they can be.
As their first-grade teacher, I owe it to my students to provide nothing but the best resources and learning opportunities.
My students feel safe and comfortable yet challenged at the same time every school day. From the moment they walk into the classroom, I am focused on reaching each student at their individual level to help them be successful in any way they can be.
My Project
My students LOVE listening to a great book during read aloud time! Through strong and engaging read alouds I am able to teach key skills and strategies to my very beginning readers. Our read aloud time is one of the most valued times of every one of our days. Reading is one of the most valued and exciting parts of the day for my first graders. In our classroom, we value all the stages and levels of reading so that everyone feels like an independent reader.
We are in desperate need of a variety of high quality picture books to engage my readers during our daily read aloud.
Mentor texts are crucial to our balanced literacy instruction. I will use these texts to teach my students the strategies they need to become an independent reader. These books will be used during read alouds, mini lessons, as well as independent reading time.
