This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As Speech Therapists in our school, we understand the importance of phonological awareness and the influence of early reading skills on later reading success.
Decodable readers are used for the purpose of further developing phonological decoding skills and to provide students with increased opportunities to read fluently at their level.
These books meet students where they are and provides them with continued repeated practice with the skills they have previously learned.
This project will support our Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade classes to work towards closing gaps in reading efficiency, and bring them closer to grade level standards. These decodable reader sets will allow our students to not only practice their reading during the school day, but to also be able to take books home. The correlation between books in the home and academic success/vocabulary development is strong.
Through this project, we hope to foster a love for reading in our students who might otherwise find reading to be a chore. Thank you for your support in helping out students to grow!
