Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are like other kids in many ways. What sets them apart from other students is their economic status. 99% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and many of the students are newly-arrived immigrants. Our school also serves kids from several homeless shelters and drug rehab facilities.
Our students do not have the financial security many other kids do, yet they have the desire to learn and improve.
They deserve the same level of education as their wealthier peers receive.
My Project
The students in my school do not have access to high quality children's literature. The books in our media center are old and out-of-date. Many of them are falling apart after years of use.
My students need access to great books to help them fall in love with reading.
They need to be captivated by timeless stories told in children's books, and to be exposed to new and diverse works of children's literature.
Books do not last forever, but the knowledge gained from them can. Please help me give my students books and bookmarks so they can experience the joy of reading.
