Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Wires galore! Our listening center is currently non functional due to the dangerously tangled cords that often wrap around my students' heads and necks.
Just like a typical public school in Los Angeles, California, my Pre-K students come from a very diverse group of families and backgrounds.
This diversity provides for a better learning environment in the classroom as they learn about each others' differences.
My Project
My 3-4 year-old learners are definite sponges! They soak in information as they sing, dance, and engage in dramatic plays throughout the day. Engaging them in various learning modalities is integral in their educational experiences. With this in mind, I have set up centers around the classroom where they apply their different senses as they learn. However, our listening center has been non functional due to our very old and broken-down headphones. The audio output of our headphones are often muffled and incomprehensible. In addition, the cords are often tangled and difficult for my students to use effectively.
A functional listening center with cordless headphones will provide my students the opportunity to listen to stories with ease.
Fixing the tangled cords and making sure they do not wrap around their heads and necks are often time-consuming for my students. Due to time lost, they miss out on the sole purpose of the listening center; to enjoy books on tape. Once funded, my students can start sharpening their auditory skills and building their love for books.
