Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every child wants to learn how to read! Children will learn if given the proper tools.
Most of the students in my classroom enter kindergarten with no preschool experience.
My school has 1,000 students, most of which come from low income families. When you ask the students if anyone at home reads to them the answer is almost always "no". There is limited literacy in the homes of my students. School is the only opportunity for them to listen to stories and learn how to read.
My Project
With the addition of these materials, the students in my classroom will be engaged in literacy. They will be given the opportunity to listen to stories as well as act out stories with puppets and props. It is important as children learn to read that they use retelling skills to display their comprehension. Through acting out stories with puppets the children are able to process what they have heard and retell it to either themselves or others with puppets.
You can make a difference!
By giving the children in my classroom puppets and books to read and listen to they will become excited about learning. Every child deserves the chance to learn how to read. Being read to is the first step in creating a love of reading.
