This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a first grade class at a Title I school. My students qualify for free lunch and most are economically disadvantaged. I also have some special education students.
Success is dependent on opportunity and exposure.
All subject areas in first grade are addressed by the homeroom teacher. My class establishes a foundation for upper grade state testing. I try to prepare and build upon student knowledge to set them up for success.
My Project
These books being added to our library will allow my students to see themselves. Many of our low income students in the south rarely see representation of themselves, as well as literary content. My classroom library is a place for students to learn the love of reading. Reading a good book allows for imagination of travel to places or things my students may never encounter. Books provide a love of reading, encouragement, and ways to gain knowledge. Students are able to visit library daily to care for books and read. Books open the world around you everyday.
