Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is a Title 1 school. I have mostly second language learners. The class size varies year to year.

My students are not only learning the curriculum for 2nd grade, but also learning to read and write English.

They come from hard working, low-income families. The families are very appreciative of the learning opportunities provided to their children.

Even though they are learning English, they are still expected to learn, understand and pass the curriculum requirements from the State in order to be moved on to the next grade.

I use a variety of teaching techniques and methods in order to help these students understand and learn new concepts.

My Project

The addition of these books will allow students to increase their vocabulary and writing skills as well as comprehension. All of these books are also part of our Accelerated Reader Program which test for comprehension.

The students love these books, especially the Elephant and Piggy books, which encourage reading.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.

My class is entirely made up of second language learners. They need books that are enjoyable, but easy enough to read, raise self esteem and encourage future reading.
