This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A tornado destroyed their school, but my Early College students continue to persevere. They are 1st generation college bound kids from economically disadvantaged homes with strength, determination, open hearts and minds who deserve the best education we can offer.
They make me laugh and sometimes cry on a daily basis with their unique vision and experience of what it really means to go forward in times of adversity.
They deserve and need the best education because the world needs them.
My Project
In October, our school was destroyed by a tornado. While many generous donors have contributed to our loss, I am still trying to rebuild the classroom library. Our Early College High School is preparing our 9th and 10th graders for the rigor of attending college full time on a college campus next year.
High interest texts are needed for our Read to Grow across the curriculum project.
We began this project before the tornado and while we use the school library, the more books we can provide, the better for the students! Research continues to show that reading ability is the single best predictor of college and career readiness. Any contribution you can make to help us grow readers will be greatly appreciated!
