My students need 12 copies of of 4 novels that offer a challenge, such as "Night of the Twisters" and "Brian's Winter," so that they can achieve higher order thinking in small groups settings.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If better is possible, Good is NOT enough." My students need reading materials that spark their interest so they can think on higher order levels and make real world connections.
My students are mainly Hispanic and are low income; therefore resources are scarce.
Most of our students come to us with low vocabulary in English. They can read, but making connections with the material is hard for them. Our students are hard working children who just need reading materials that means something to them.
Our school is located in an inner city school district, so there are many factors that contribute to our students' success being limited. The children we service sometimes get lost in the shuffle and funding is tight. This makes it hard to supply each school with classroom sets of books. Teachers most of the time pay for these out of their own pocket.
My Project
I am requesting small classroom novel sets to use in groups with my students. In the past, my children have enjoyed it when I read these novels aloud. I am excited to have an opportunity to offer my students a chance to participate in a hands on book study where they can discuss, journal, do vocabulary studies, and read as groups. Together they can achieve more.
Our country is so diverse and is even more so then it used to be; our students are not the same.
It is our job as a nation to ensure that our children are given every opportunity to learn, and to do so more passionately. We must instill the passion to read and learn. To do so, we have to find what drives them; what gets them excited. Your donation will be empowering my students to learn, be successful, and achieve so we all can do more.
