My speech classroom is inclusive of all students with communication needs in my K-6 setting.
Our speech and language community is using books to master sound production, isolate main ideas, recall and retell details, answer WH - questions, make inferences, recognize emotions, make predictions, and gain cultural competence.
I am requesting books along with bright student folders, a few binders, and a small mobile filing cabinet that is easily accessible. My students will be excited to create their own folders for current works in progress and the ability to access them independently.
My students are so excitable! They do not turn away from coming to speech class. They are excited to explore literacy in our safe environment, to boost receptive, expressive and pragmatic language. Pulling out fun words to improve articulation and overall speech intelligibility is a bonus. Having their own file cabinet to access their related materials will foster their independence, responsibility and organization.
Additionally, I am requesting social skills materials and spatial concepts/prepositions for specifically designed instruction as dictated by individualized education programs.
