My Students
I am a teacher in a high needs community an economically disadvantaged inner city school district. My elementary school students do not have the use of literacy based novels in the classroom which puts them at a disadvantage for learning.
When children enter elementary school they are so excited and scared.
Many think they are grown up, but yet they are children with a lust for learning. My children have many disadvantages such as poverty, emotional issues, family issues, yet when enter elementary school they have an awesome amount of energy and thrust to learn through differentiated instruction.
Bins with lids containing novel collections would be the learning tool that would be able to address individual learning modalities that is an integral part of literacy, science, math and social studies. I teach 12 classes of 33 K- 8th graders in a low income, economically disadvantage inner city environment. My children have little opportunity at home for anyone to teach them through hands on base research. The children are struggling because they need to visualize what the world has to offer them and hear the words along with oral expression as they watch the lesson being taught to them.
My Project
Literature novel collections would allow me to teach my students through hands on visual experience and bring them into the 21st century of learning. As we learn to enjoy reading students will be able to visualize what they are being taught which will stimulate them in many different ways. Through these hands on experience available to my students many will find a new interest in education and prepare them as the go on to higher learning. Your help in creating this new type of learning will ensure that my students are prepared for the future. Knowing how important education is for our children, finding a new way to reach them will make it possible for these young adults to be ready to be the future of our country.
Creating a library for our children to learn to enjoy readings is a unique opportunity.
They will be able to use the imagination, talk to their parents and create a generation of young people with a lust for learning. The opportunities these students will have will be able to be passed on from one generation to another by keeping our novels safe and secure in the bins.
