This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the privilege of working in a 2nd-grade classroom. We are one of the most populated schools in the county, with a total of over 1,000 students. We are a classroom of readers! In our class, we learn and gain knowledge through reading, and other creative instruction. I set high exceptions for my students and am always pushing them. I encourage them to think, problem-solve, be kind, and learn from their mistakes. I expect them to work hard, and I will, in turn, work hard for them. In my class, I aim to empower students, in a safe and nurturing environment where everyone can learn and grow.

My Project

This year our district is implementing a new literacy program. As this Pandemic continues to linger, I am dedicated to making sure my students are reading at grade level and ready for achievement. Scholastic News magazine will help me and my students achieve our goals.

My goal is to improve on student comprehension through nonfiction text, by engaging them with interesting reading materials and teaching them how to identify text features.

We will be back in the classroom full time this year with a total of 25 students. Most children do not see enough text through hand held materials, like magazines or books. I would like to share with them the love of reading and the fantastic way you can gain knowledge through nonfiction text.

I am also asking for more books to enhance our aging classroom library. It is always nice to add new material our library. This provides options and variety within our library.
