Our multi-age classroom is a community of learners and growers. We spend two years with our students, guiding them and watching them blossom. We emphasize working together and being a community. Students help one another and learn in the best way, by teaching others.
Our students are an amazing and diverse group of third and fourth graders.
They come from high poverty areas. School is often their comfort place and provides food, as well as stability. The school is Title I funded. Our classroom is like a community, and we want the students to feel comfortable and safe while learning.
My Project
Our students need books for your classroom library. We are forunate to have a pretty decent selection of books in our classroom. However, we have 50 students that stay in this classroom for 2 years. Many times they have read all of the books that interest them or are within their abilities before the second year. It is important to keep them interested and wanting to read. Adding the science collections will ensure the students have access to books about our current science curriculum. The Jake Maddox series is a classroom favorite and I am always looking to add more to our collection. Reading is such an essential part of everyday learning for students. I want to make sure to keep them hooked with a good book.
