Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an urban school, serving students from lower income families. Many of our child are one grade level below in reading. Our students need extra interesting activities to encourage them to read. After reviewing data from the Leap Pad Company I saw that student reading preformance was improved by an impressive rate. I propose using the leap pad system in my room to improve my students' reading. I will pre-test my students using the K-2 Assessment that is required by our state. We then will use the leap pad level readers and phomenic awareness program with all my student to reinforce the reading program in our class. Each student will be retested quarterly to assess any improvement in their reading. Each student will use the leap pads 30 minutes per week for the first semester, increasing to one hour per week in the second semester. During the fourth quarter each student will be reassessed using the K-2 Assessment. We are looking for at least two growth levels in their reading.
The materials need for this proposal would be leveled leap pad readers.
Most student do better when they use some form of technology. I know that the leap pad program will encourage my students to read more, build on skills they have gone over and improve their reading level.
