My Students

My students come from poverty-stricken homes and most don't know how good it feels to succeed. My classroom is a first-grade classroom in New York. A lot of my students come from broken homes or live with other relatives because their parents have made wrong choices in their lives. All of my students are visual learners and my school doesn't have the resources that the teachers need; and technology is one of these resources. I have 4 ENL students in my room that need more support. I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to help them succeed. I can't tell you how many times I have looked over and seen the tears of my students because they are frustrated. They have it in them to be great learners, and it is my responsibility to make this happen. It's time to make a change and show them their potential.

My Project

My students need to see how much fun reading can be. They need to read books at their level and books that interest them. Most of my students don't have many books at home that they can read. Having books at their level will allow them to borrow them to read at home. Students will be able to choose their own books to put in their reading bins to practice reading every day. Books in the classroom library will keep students interested and they won't want to put the books down. The students will build their confidence in reading and will be proud of what they have accomplished.
