Read, Play, Repeat: Boosting Literacy Through Fun

My Project

The materials I am requesting will be used to create game-based centers for our elementary library program. I want to design engaging, hands-on literacy centers that students can rotate through during their library visits, which occur once every four days. Currently, we have no reading or literacy-based games available for students during this time, limiting opportunities for meaningful, independent practice.

My goal is to build better readers by reinforcing the learning that is happening in their regular classroom through game-based activities.

Many of the resources I am requesting—such as card games, board games, and dice games—are designed to strengthen key reading skills in fun and accessible ways. One key resource, the Reading & Writing Skills Folder Game Libraries Gr. 4-5 – Complete Set, will provide structured, skill-targeted games that support vocabulary development, grammar, sentence structure, and reading comprehension for some of our older students. Other materials are especially helpful for our elementary multilingual learners, who often face added challenges when learning to read in English. Many of the resources will be used by all grade levels due to the wide range of reading levels in each of our classes. By giving them repeated, low-pressure opportunities to practice and succeed, these centers will help build their confidence and foster a love of reading.
