Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My school is next door to a prairie, where my 30 students receive 100% free lunch and are inquisitive African-American kindergarten students. Their world and community is known as "Jeffrey Manor". There travels are limited to the "Manor". A main street borders their homes and gangs reside on the other side leaving my students no room to explore different neighborhoods. I would like my students to keep abreast of current events by receiving Time For Kids Magazine weekly. This would tie into reading and social science which I teach. Not only will this broaden their horizon but will also help with their communication skills (some students' skills are low because of not having been exposed to different environments). This magazine is at my students' reading and picture level. My students will also acquire a richer speaking vocabulary which is what is needed to be successful in school.
