This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students (Pre-K to Fifth Grade) come from all walks of life, but have one thing in common, they love to learn! In the library, they are able to relax with their favorite books and work in cooperative groups to create fun projects, explore new opportunities and express their ideas freely. My goal is for all 670 students to feel comfortable in the library.

Elementary students are at a critical time in their educational, social and emotional lives, it is our job as educators to make sure they have what they need to succeed.

My students thrive using non-traditional seating and have shown this through the use of the few flexible seating pieces currently have in the library. Currently we have 8 flexible seating pieces for classes with up to 25 students, I would love to have this option available for most if not all students to utilize.

My Project

Flexible seating in the library will allow students to pick a spot that works for them to experience literacy. We currently have limited options for seating with most students sitting at wooden tables in groups of four. While this worked for many years, studies have shown that students work better and concentrate more when they have the choice of how they work whether that be at a table, on the floor with clipboards, or in other flexible seating choices.

The flexible seating cushions, teeter chairs and flex space comfy floor seats will not only provide seating choice the library, but keep fidgeting students safe.

Many students fidget while working and that can lead to dangerous chair tipping. By using flexible seating, students are able to safely rock, lay or tilt without fear of falling or injury.
