My Students
My third grade students are a group of highly motivated, enthusiastic, curious and caring third-graders from very diverse backgrounds. It is truly rewarding to see them grow so much during our year together! The solid foundation provided to them in third grade is so essential as they move on in their academic career.
Our school is in an economically challenged area surrounded by resorts and tourist affluence.
I want my students to have the best educational foundation they can get in order to thrive throughout their lives and to understand that there are no limits to the opportunities available to them.
My Project
Read Naturally Live is a motivating, non-fiction based reading program aligned with the Common Core standards. Students love the science and biography based stories in Read Naturally Live. Students work independently online at their assigned reading level to develop phonics and word analysis skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing skills. Using technology, they are able to review the vocabulary, make predictions, record a one-minute "cold" reading, read along with the text, take a "final" one-minute timed reading, complete complex levels of comprehension questions, and write a summary. As students work through each individualized level, they will be challenged with higher level stories. The teacher intervenes as necessary, providing further strategies, one-minute timed readings, and support. The Read Naturally Live can also be used to challenge high level readers.
Students will be motivated by the exciting colorful stories that the online experience provides for them.
They will be able to interact directly with the story by highlighting unknown words and receiving immediate feedback. Read Naturally Live also graphs their "cold" and "hot" readings, providing visual graphs for the students, parents, and teachers. Students can access Read Naturally Live any time without needing to wait for an adult.
