My Students

My students hail from a small town in Southern Mississippi. The media center is in a fully inclusive public elementary school that educates approximately 600 students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. More than fifty percent of our students come from low-income homes. They range in age from five to ten years old and are in kindergarten through third grade.

The students come to the library eager to read and ready to learn new things.

The library supports all curriculum standards in all areas. All classes visit the media center for an hour every week.

My Project

My students always want new books! The latest "Press Start," "Princess in Black," and "Dog Man" are frequently requested! Along with these popular titles, the latest books about science leaders and inventions will help our students discover adventures and the excitement that comes with using the skills they learn.

Students need to compare and contrast themes, settings, and plots of stories, describe characters in a story (their traits, motivations, or feelings), and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

These new books are just the ones to get our students reading! All students and teachers will be able to check out and read and learn from these new tales!

Reading is such an important skill! We strive to make reading both a learning and a rewarding adventure! There is nothing like a new book to pique our students interest in literacy!
