Read! Learn! Build! Our Students Love Minecraft Books!
Help me give my students some of the high-interest book titles they've requested, namely, Minecraft books that will tie-in with their innovation lab activities!
As an elementary school library media technician, I get to share my love of books with students aged 4-12, and help them unlock their own love of reading. Some of my students are avid readers, but there are many who struggle to find that perfect book that will spark their interest and truly help them see the magic of literature. This has been even more true while they've spent more time off-campus over the past 18 months.
Distance learning and isolation during the pandemic has disrupted both our normal library routine, and our ability to buy new materials, because all our normal fundraising events had to be cancelled.
I'm constantly looking for ways to keep both enthusiastic and more reluctant readers engaged, by giving them a role in choosing some of the books we have on campus.
My Project
I am requesting high-interest book titles my students have requested, namely, Minecraft books that will tie-in with their innovation lab activities. This past year, our school was lucky enough to become the owners of a very special resource: a book vending machine called Inchy. Inchy has been such an exciting addition to our campus, as students have had the opportunity to earn tokens to redeem for a book from Inchy for following our school's 3 Rs: being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible. The wonderful thing about Inchy is that the children have been so motivated to earn tokens, and their behavior has reflected this, but it also means we need to restock Inchy with new titles frequently!
We'd love to be able to stock Inchy with a great new selection of high-interest books, requested by our students, to help keep them enthusiastic about reading AND positive behavior!
I love hearing the meaningful conversations the kids are having about their book choices. So many of our students are interested in Minecraft right now, and have asked to have more Minecraft-themed titles added to Inchy; I'd love to be able to make that happen for them!
